What Causes Blood In Stool While Suffering From Amoebiasis?
hi my 1 month old baby was diagnosed with amoebiasis. given metronidazole for 9 days only. but the my baby s stool still has thr red~brown discharge. i dunno if its blood but its like stretchy. so her pedia suggested to give him another bottle of metronidazole still the poop has discharges like the once i mentioned above. but he doesnt poop that much anymore.like the interval is 4~6 hrs.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. 'Amoebiasis' is caused by protozoan parasite organism called 'entamoeba histolytica'. It causes internal inflammation of large intestine.
Amoebiasis is a 100% treatable disease by use of specific antibiotics such as metronidazole.
Although the organism gets eliminated by the use of antibiotics, it takes few more days for the mucosal inflammation to heal. Hence, you may encounter blood in stools in some instances. Gradually, even that will subside. Kindly keep the baby well fed and hydrated.
Hope the information provided is clear. All the best.
