What Causes Blood In Stool While On Blood Thinner Medicine?

my 92 yr old mother had small stroke, learned cause A fib, now on blood thinner -- and her hospital f/u with pcp showed a lot of blood in her stool. her PCP wants her to stop blood thinner until she calls the stroke clinic to see if this is a problem. I d understood from the neurologist that stopping the blood thinner would also raise her stroke risk -- I m concerned. Is it possible this extra blood is due to adjustment to blood thinner and will settle down?

Hello,

No that is not the case you should need immediately for that, and do labs, and think about the alternative of that blood thinner because as he is aged, and metabolism may be altered, and that blood thinner makes blood too thin to bleed so do not wait.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
