Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Blood Blister On The Inside Of Bottom Lip?
I have what looks like a blood blister on the inside of my bottom lip. It used to only show up every once in a while, and when it did, it was right after I brushed my teeth. For the past 5 days or so, it has been constant. When I wake in the morning, it is smaller. As the day goes along and I talk (especially when saying words with an f ) it gets a little larger. What is this?
As per your complain it can be either a MUCOCELE which is caused due to rupture to minor salivary glands or their ducts located on inner side of lower lips which cause extravasation or spilling of mucus or saliva into the surrounding soft tissues.
Other reason can be due to trauma or injury the small blood vessels can rupture leading to spilling of blood into the surrounding soft tissues forming a lump known as HEMATOMA.
If it is a hematoma it will resolve itself.
At times a mucocele ruptures by itself and spills its contents into the mouth and heals slowly.. But at times it needs to be removed by surgical procedure.
I would suggest you to consult an oral pathologist who can rule out the cause for the lump and suggest a specific treatment for it.
Hope your query is solved.
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
