What Causes Blood At The End Of Bowel Movement?

I'm a 68 year old man in good health. In a bm today after much straining to go I saw what looked like a half teaspoon amount of red blood at the end of the last stool. My stools are often hard.....could the stool have scratched the intestine? Do you think this is a sign of trouble...... although this was a first time thing.

The most probable reason for you to have blood in your stools at the end is fissure in ano which is usually caused due to passing of hard stools.Take a lot of easily digestible foods like fibres and if you are having pain during passing of stools you can do sitz bath 4 times daily(sit in a tub containing Luke warm water with salt and a teaspoon of dettol).Considering your age there are many other possibilities so it's better to visit a surgeon and to undergo a per rectal examination.
