What Causes Blood And White Froth From Mouth After Death?

My grandmother passed away yesterday. Until we buried her, there was blood coming out of her mouth. She also had a little bit of white froth coming out of her mouth. Do you know why? We don t know the cause of her death. We found her lying on the floor on her back.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Any odd smelling of discharge was there? She had any chronic diseases like heart or kidney disease? Pink or blood stained frothy discharge from mouth probably suggests pulmonary edema, which can follow acute heart failure. But we have to consider the entire clinical scenario as upper bowel bleeding or acute lung injury from any insult can also have a similar presentation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
