What Causes Blood And Mucus In The Urine?

Hi I have blood in my urine along with mucus. I do not know if this is a UTI (or something more sinister) or simply my period coming early (my period is due next week). It only started a few hours ago. I also have the feeling of needing to urinate. How do I know if it is an UTI or my menstrual cycle. Thanks, I appreciate your help.

I totally understand your concerns about your health
the direct answer to your question is the following :
Put a dry clean pad on your perineal area and watch if it gets tinged with blood this means it is coming spontaneously from the uterus and this means that you are having your menses.
If it stays dry then most likely you are not having your menses.
hematuria (blood in urine) will come out only if you pee and hence the pad will stay clean and dry if you are having hematuria.

the detailed answer is the following :
indeed this might be either your menses or hematuria.
1- Your menses can sometimes come before the estimated time or sometime after it. this is always considered with normal limits if your menses are within 21 to 35 days after the last menstrual period. So if you are having your menses now this is fine and there are nothing to worry about. If you are sexually active, then in the ED a speculum examination will show in this case blood coming from the cervix which makes the diagnosis and help ruling out hematuria.
2- the fact that you are feeling the need to pee might be an element of irritation of your urinary tract, that might be also the same reason for hematuria. these reasons can be either a cystitis (infection of the urinary bladder) or a kidney stone that passed and injured the urinary tract hence no pain but blood can be seen in urine. To help narrow the diagnosis a urinalysis can tell us a lot about the reason.
