What Causes Bloating In The Upper Abdomen?

Hi - I feel a fullness in my upper abdomen area (near my rib cage). It doesn t seem to bother me when I m laying down, but when I stand up, I get burpy . When I exert myself with exercise, it really bothers me, like there s food that s not going down. I ve had these symptoms for quite a while. Last Octobe, I was diagnosed with pericarditis, which was causing my heart to go into an arrhythmia. This feels somewhat similar, except I haven t had any irregularities in my heart beat. Any Ideas what might be causing this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The symptoms are more likely suggestive of severe acid reflux.

As a first line management, you can take antacids like Omeprazole for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist, better to consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
