What Causes Blisters On The Knees And Elbows After A Few Scrapes?

Hi, So a bit over 4 weeks ago, I fell of a bike onto a dirt road, and that resulted on a few scrapes, on my ankle, knee, and elbow. They have healed now, but day before yesterday I noticed 2 5mm blisters on my knee (where the scrape was) and today I notice some smaller on my elbow. These blisters seem to be full with fluid, looks clear to me. The area where the blisters are is a bit more red, but the areas around these blisters are is not red (not inflamed). Pressing the blisters is (obviously) painful, but the area around the blisters doesn t feel sore. (just a bit tender, as it s just healed skin) I m male, 196cm, 83kg, 43yrs old, healthy. Any idea? Should I leave it alone, should I pierce the blisters so the pressure is off, need to apply a antibiotic, need to see a doc? Thanks!

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history you are having irritant dermatitis, my treatment advice is -
1. Avoid using soap or Dettol on that part.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like fusiderm-b cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for itching.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
