What Causes Bleeding While Urinating?

My sons roommate just called his saying he was in the hospital. He was urinating, passed gas and blood came out with the urine. He passed out and kept bleeding. Someone found him and called an ambulance, now they are keeping him overnight and he is supposed to see a urologist. what could this be?

Passing gas can be due to the pathological communication (fistula) between the urinary and the intestinal systems somewhere between bladder and urethra.

Blood in urine shows mostly the urinary tract infection. Bladder inflammation causes bleeding.

They are on the right lines. Urologist visit is necessary for evaluation and treatment.
