What Causes Bleeding From Gums?

I have this strange spot on the lower part of my gums right above my canine tooth, and its been around for quite some time now (3 weeks to a month). This spot is very soft, sensitive, and tends to bleed when irritated by the bristles of my toothbrush. I currently have braces, and my track record when it comes to oral hygene isn t the greatest. I m starting to get concerned about my oral hygene and would love any advice or explanation that could be given.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to Health Care Magic Team.

Understanding concern about your oral health.

Gums area around your righ canine tooth is inflammed which could be because of braces as mild irritation can occur which is continousily exaggeratted by bristles of your tooth brush.

You have to be very vigilant about your oral hygiene. Gums inflammation occurs because of deposition of bacteria, food particles in subgingival area and this area is very difficult to get cleaned with brush so bacteria keeps on depositing and cause bleeding , swelling and tenderness in that area.

Area around braces is very susceptible as we ignore cleaniness around braces. You should use supersoft brush with a very light stroke motion, mouthwash on a daily basis.

Area around braces should be cleaned with unitufted brushes or floss them. Use correct method of flossing.

If still your condition persists i would recomnend you to go to periodontist and get your treatment done.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get well soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
