What Causes Bleeding And Purple Bruise At The Site Of Needle Insertion?

Hi, I donated blood today (well, attempted to) and the woman missed the vein several times and when she finally got it, it began to clot too fast, so we proceeded to stop and I left. It s been about 7 hours since that incident and there is still some blood coming from the area where the needle was inserted, along with a purple bruise and a little inflamation. The doctor s office here is closed and I was going to wait until the morning to go ask someone about it. Should I be okay to wait that long, or could there be something wrong?

Hello,
I can understand your concern for the bleeding and purple bruise at the site of needle insertion. After analyzing your query I can make out that you have purpuric spots due to repeated pricking of the skin to find the veins. In an attempt to prick the skin your vessels caused oozing of blood and that caused the bleeding as well bruises at the injection site.
I reassure you fully that there is nothing to be worried about and the area would be alright soon. You can apply an antibiotic cream such as Mupirocin or fucidin at the affected area. A pain killer such as paracetamol can be taken in case if there is any pain over the area. Do not try to touch or pinch the area. If there is any swelling then should report to the treating doctor.
All the best.
