What Causes Bleeding And Discomfort While Urinating?

Hello I am a resident s assistant at a university. One of my residents just informed me that he started peeing blood. He is not in any real pain just some discomfort. To his knowledge he wasn t injured while playing basketball today, he also isn t running a fever. Is this an emergency or can it wait till the morning?

Hi
i have gone through your question
I appreciate your concern
presence of urine in blood is matter of concern
it could happen due to following reasons
1. Urinary tract infection
2. Sexually transmitted disease
3.stone in urinary tract like kidney stone or ureteric stone
4 benign lesion of the tract

in his case it could be a UTI or STD
get his urine tested and ultrasound if symptoms persists

tell him to have plenty of oral fluids
