What Causes Bleeding After Tonsillectomy?

my 9 year old daughter had her tonsils out 15 days ago & has had bleeding 3 times over the last 2 days, up to 3/4 of a cup of blood in total. We saw her dr. today, we trust him totally and know him personally, but he seemed perplexed as to why she was having bleeding at this point. we stopped the bleeding everytime within 5-6 minutes with ice water gurggling. She is otherwise healthy. Her scabs appear to be gone, he said. I'm worried about a small vascular tear, or a small vessel bleeding....just not sure. any suggestions?

Hi... bleeding from the surgical site after so many days and that too after scab formation is not to be ignored lightly.

The possibilities are that she might be having a bleeding disorder or a vascular tear. Your surgeon is right.

If I were your treating doctor I suggest that you go ahead with workup for bleeding disorder and also and MR angiogram which would delineate if there is a culprit bleeding blood vessel.
