What Causes Bleeding After Having Lovenox Injection?

A friend called and aske if she is taking Coumadin and then her doctor also prescribes Lovenox and when she give the injections she bleeds. I had taken Lovenox when I had a knee replaced, but no problem and this is why she asked me. She can not get hold of her doctor until Monday. Should she stop the injections until speaking with her doctor?

Hi,

Both Coumadin and Lovenox are anticoagulants. So if both are taken together, bleeding is likely to occur. In your case only Lovenox was prescribed so frank bleeding was not there. But I really am surprised why your friend was prescribed two anticoagulants.

I suggest talk to her doctor who can tell exactly why both anticoagulants were prescribed simultaneously.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
