What Causes Bleeding After Changing Contraceptive Pills Mid Cycle?
Hi , I had lost my first packet of pills last month and I was half way thru it. So I started a new one and I m not sure if it was a good idea because ever since I started the new one , which was 2 weeks ago , I been bleeding since then . Shoul. I immediately stop taking them ????????????
Hello and welcome to HCM, In case you miss a contraceptive pill, the next pill should be started as soon you remember the missed pill. The next pill should be the one which is next in your pack. The contraceptive pills contain hormones and some of them contain just iron. So the sequence of pills is also important. Starting with a new pack disturbs the sequence of the pills and thus its effect is also disturbed. The breakthrough bleeding that you are experiencing is ;ikely to be due to effect of contraceptive pills. I suggest you to discontinue these pills and start a new cycle of pills with your new menstrual cycle. If the bleeding does not stop even after discontinuation of contraceptive pills, then you need to consult your gynecologist for measures to stop the bleeding.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
