What Causes Bladder Distention With An Indwelling Catheter?

Wow. thank you so much for the quick response. I truly appreciate the information. I m not being a snoot, but my question was actually why do I have bladder distention with an indwelling catheter? Should nt the catheter allow for drainage no natter what? Even tho the mechanics of the bladder are malfunctioning? I drink small glasses of water thu the day to try to prevent distention. I can not sit and drink a whole Coke for instance, without bladder distention. This like I said is a newer thing for me so I just can not why the catheter doesn t allow for a more immediate drainage. I hope you understand my question. Thank you very much

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Bladder distension with indwelling catheter could be due to blockage of the catheter.

Hence, it needs to be checked at the earliest as bladder distension could cause reverse flow of urine and can affect functioning of kidneys.

Kindly consult Urologist at the earliest for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
