What Causes Black Tarry Bowel Movement?

Ate some frozen salmon purchased at grocery store underthe name of Gortons. Then developed diarrhea of soft black tarry feces, not controllable, for about 24 hours That night I took milk of magnesia In time the diarrhea stopped but haven t had a bowel movement in two days. Concerned about the color of the feces. I don t have a doctor at present.

Dear; black tarry stools could be from intestinal bleeding, mostly from acute gastritis, duodenitos or ulcer. When stools are black this is from "old blood" meaning that not necessary has an active bleeding at that moment but can bleed again so needs to have an evaluation with gastroenterologist and an upper/lower endoscopy to find site of bleeding. Salmon could be a trigger for it but it could be an isolated situation .
