What Causes Black Stool While On Asprin And Crestor?

I just passed a very loose stool that was black and looked like coffee grounds. I m currently taking one 325 mg aspirin daily to thin my blood. I have just begun an antibiotic treatment for UTI. It is 875mg. Plus I take 10 mg of Crestor, three times a week, and other prescribed drugs for A-fib. What could cause this stol?

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
You are having melena or black tarry loose stool due to bleeding from upper GI(Gastro-intestinal) tract ,most likely gastric erosion caused by aspirin that you have been taking. Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) does not cause black stool. You have to stop taking aspirin for the time being and to take antacids like PPIs (Proton-pump inhibitors) e.g. omeprazole 20 mg or pantoprazole 40 mg orally daily and to see a Gastro-enterologist for upper GI endoscopy.
