Hello,

Your Mil is suffering from blood in stool and low blood count. She is also losing weight and has some black bruises on her body. Blood in stool may be indicative of some serious health problem. It can be accompanied with intense pain while passing bowels, it is not normal and should not be avoided, it needs urgent medical attention. Blood in the stool can be caused due to constipation, anal diseases, anal cancer, colon cancer, irritation in the anus, hemorrhoids, etc. Get her clinically examined by a GP / proctologists and anorectal surgeons.

Other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are Crohn's disease, peptic ulcer, internal bleeding, polyps, anal fissure, piles, etc. Piles and fissures are treated with medicines, laser surgeries or surgeries to treat and cure those diseases that cause blood in stools. Laser surgery treatment provides a permanent cure for piles and other anorectal diseases. The patient feels no pain during the surgery and after sufficient bed rest, he/ she can resume their normal daily routine.

Ignoring blood in the stool can worsen the condition. Let her get all required blood works and tests/investigations done. She will be treated accordingly. Bruising commonly occurs due to vitamin deficiencies (vitamin K and C), vasculitis, cancer, bleeding disorders (hemophilia A and B), liver disease, as a result of the side effects of certain medications. Loss of weight may be a sign of overactive thyroid, cancer, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, etc. Get her treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
