What Causes Black Bowel Movements?

Ive noticed for the last three days of having jet black stools after a bowel movement. I was taking iron pilss for anemia, but stopped taking it to see if that was the cause of the black stools. However, after stopping the iron pills about a week now my stools are still black. What may be causing this?

Hi,
It seems that your problem might be due to iron pills you were taking.
Now as you have stopped taking iron, wait still for few days, if still black stool is there then you should require to find out some bleeding for GI tract.
Then go for stool test for occult blood.
After report your doctor will advice accordingly.
Ok and take care.
