What Causes Balance Disorder After Taking Losartan?

I have been taking Losartin for about a week. I m having trouble with balance (lose my balance easily). I thought it might be an inner ear problem and have taken bonine, which does help), but this balance problem doesn t seem like an inner ear problem. Could Losartin be the culprit or is it likely something else. Also have very vivid, bizarre dreams almost every night since taking it. (This is not a problem, I can tolerate it) TYia

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, Losartan can cause loss of balance as a side effect or it can be due to the excessive dosage of the drug causing low blood pressure leading to postural hypotension & lack of balance.

Please do not stop the drug. Instead go to your doctor &let him decide weather lowering dosage or changing medication is needful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
