What Causes Bad Vaginal Odor After Robotic Hysterectomy?

Is it common to experience unpleasant vaginal odor following a robotic hysterectomy? I had my hysterectomy December 22,2015 and about 11/2 - 2 weeks post surgery I began noticing an unpleasant odor. My discharge has ranged from brown spotting to bright red bleeding similar to the period I m no longer supposed to be having!! I talked to my doc who said my bleeding was normal and I shouldn t be concerned unless I start saturating a pad every hour.. However I was so concerned about the increased blood that I forgot to ask about the odor. Is it common? If so, how long does it typically last?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

It is common, and the bleeding and odour shall soon subside. A hysterectomy is major surgery and your body will take some time to overcome the surgery and complete the healing process. I also hope you have completed your course of antibiotics that should have been prescribed post-surgery.

Best wishes.
