What Causes Bad Odour In The Vagina Of A Woman With Mild Endometriosis?

In May of 2014, I went for my annual exam and had Mirena placed. The doctor performed an STD screen and said I showed no signs of infection. Several months later, around October, I noticed my vaginal chemistry had started to change. I have no history of UTIs, STDs, or yeast infections, but I started to notice a very strong smell. There was no change in discharge, no itch, and no unexplained bleeding. The odor was not fishy, but bad, like bad meat. In June the following year, I got a tubal ligation and had the Mirena removed. I assumed that the odor was due to some reaction with the Mirena and that it might go away, and for three months it did. During none of this time did my doctor say I showed any signs of infection, even when I pointed out my issues. By September the odor had returned, and in November I had another full STD panel, thinking it must be some infection. All clean. Still no change in discharge and no itch. When I insert a finger, underwear. The only thing that controls it is douching weekly, which I know I should not do but has been the only solution these past two months. I avoid it unless I am absolutely desperate, and have only been using it since Christmas. If I stop, the odor returns. I m 26 with no children and no signs of any hormonal imbalances, I am on no medication, I do not have diabetes, I have mild endometriosis but no other illnesses, and other than one individual with vitiligo and one with hemochromatosis, I do not have family history of any illnesses. My next appointment is in a few weeks. What can I ask my doctor about in terms of a permanent solution?

Hi

There are a few factors that can lead to changes in vaginal odour: infections or STIs, exercising and sweating, hormone levels during your menstrual cycle, and changes in the pH of your vagina.Any forgotten tampons can also cause such odour. You need to be treated with a course of antibiotics.Vaginal washes are available which maintains the ph and reduces the risk of infections.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
