What Causes Bad Mouth Odor?

Hello, My father s breath has smelled of brine or olives over the past several weeks. He has very good oral hygiene so I am skeptical that it is a mouth issue. He eats pickles for leg cramps after he plays tennis, but has been doing so for several years so I don t think that this is the cause. Is there a certain ailment that may cause this olive odor?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your father is suffering from bad breath or halitosis and it can be due to a number of causes like poor oral hygiene, oral and dental infections, tonsil stones, sinus infections, digestive disorders, diabetes, side effects of medications etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations as per suspected cause can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
As of now he can gargle with a flavoured mouthwash to mask bad breath..
He can chew flavoured sugarfree chewing gums as it help in stimulating saliva flow as well as mask bad breath..
Drink plenty of water..
Avoid excess intake of onion and garlic..
Do steam inhalation with few drops of Eucalyptus oil in water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
