What Causes Back Pain With Excessive Belching?

Hi, I have been experiencing gastric reflux and possible allergy symptoms for several months. I have had constant voice issues (hoarseness/ broken voicing) since September. Now I have excessive belching with upper back pain - to the point that it hurts at times if I breathe deeply. Can gastric reflux evidence as back pain? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Your symptoms may indicate specific condition called hiatal hernia and this means that stomach is protruding through diaphragm muscle. It may cause breathing difficulties, nausea, swallowing difficultires and irritation of stomach. It will also be aggravated by certain food or medications, stress and smoking. You need to avoid fried food, carbonated drinks, coffee, alcohol and spicy food. You should eat more milk products, vegetables and boiled food. Also, certain antiacid medications may be required and as last option, it is possible to perform surgical repair of hernia especially if there are progressive respiratory discomfort and dyspepsia. To diagnose it you should do gastroscopy and contrast xrays of stomach.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
