What Causes Back Pain And Weight Loss When Diagnosed With Degenerative Disc Disease?

hello my husband has been exteremly fatigued for the last 6 months. he has no appetite and is very weak. he was lost alot of weight 179 pounds to 149 pounds. he has lost his muscle all over his body. he does however have pain in his back between his shoulders and up to his neck. mri shows he has a degenerative disc problem. his blood work is good. his chest x ray is good of his lungs. he cannot get up and walk without assistance. he has not problems with urnineation or bowel movements. he does have confusion at some point everyday often. an MRI of the brain is clear. his blood pressure was sparatic and is now on medications to control this. he has to rest frequently if he does get up or tries to do any activity. he loses his balance or has to hang on to something because he feels weak and faint. over his lifetime he spent approx. 40 years being exposed to pesticides, fungicides, fumigants etc. in his occupation. he is stressed due to the fact he cannot work very often.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to nerve compression due to degenerative disc disease. For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen. Do regular physical therapy. For further assessment you may require MRI back with whole spine screening after spine surgeon consultation. Do regular physical therapy as advised.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam Kale
