What Causes Baby Acne On The Face And Neck In An Infant?

My son is 5 weeks old and the last few days has what looks like baby acne increasing all over his face/head/neck as well as has excessive congestion and saliva which he appears to be choking on when trying to sleep or is on his back. Is this normal? An allergic? Should I take him to his doctor asap?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

In my opinion the symptoms are related to a viral rash. I recommend using acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil) in case of fever.

Antibiotics are not used to treat viral rashes. If the symptoms continue you should go to the pediatrician for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
