What Causes Appetite Loss In An Infant?

5.5 month old baby not eating for Just over a week now. He is exclusively breastfed via pumping. He acts fine, plays, smiles, no dehydration signs, teething signs, no temp.. Took to the doc yesterday and she couldn t find anything wrong with him. He usually eats 5-6 oz per feeding and he will only eat mayyyybe about 1-2 oz. he s not a big baby weight wise and is low in his weight percentile high in length though. Any ideas what would be causing him to refuse to eat???? It s worrying me!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If he is taking breast milk as usual and is playful and not losing weight then you need not worry. As a rule, a baby needs exclusive breast feeding for 6 months.

If he starts losing weight or does not gain weight for consecutive 3 months then you need to worry.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Varinder Joshi
