What Causes Appetite Loss And Bad Taste While On Coumadin?
I have been on Coumadin 15 mg three days a week an the rest of days 10 mg. We have been elevating my dose over several months. I really only got to 2 one time. I have gotten a terrible taste in my mouth, esp. my tongue, and lost my appetite. As of this past Monday, my doctor and I were able to get prodaxa in another tier to make it affordable. Could the high doses of Coumadin be the cause of loss of appetite and terrible taste on the tongue
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
1. As unable to deduce your age and gender, thus remember: Loss of taste is found among people who take Coumadin, especially for people who are female, 60+ , have been taking the drug for
2. warfarin [coumadin] is an anticoagulant used to treat/prevent clots in the veins, arteries, lungs or heart and loss of appetite and unpleasant breath odor are listed as 'rare' side effects of the drug but ADR [adverse drug reaction] are: jaundice, hepatic dysfunction, pancreatitis, and increased LFT [liver function test]. so consult your attending Physician to exclude the possibilities by performing the necessary investigatons.
PS. make sure to check regularly with PT/INR to make sure you are getting the right dose of the medicine, and avoid sports/activities that may cause injuries and unseen bleeding.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
