What Causes Anxiety And Irregular Breathing After Having Alcohol?

I was prescribed Xanax (1mg) to be taken during the occasional bout of anxiety. Last night I went to several bars and got quite intoxicated (Go Blackhawks!). It has been about twenty hours since my last drink, and I am experiencing a level of anxiety that I would normally treat with one 1mg Xanax. I probably won t stop breathing in my sleep if I take one, right?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

I would first of all not self-medicate, but to answer your question you will not stop breathing during your sleep.

But please do not self medicate and visit your doctor if you need Xanax at any particular time and settle the safest dosage you can take in such situations.

Best wishes.
