What Causes Anxiety And Depression Despite Taking Lorazepam?

I have been burnt with hot grease and have been diagnosed with sever anxiety disorder PTSD,panick disorder with agoraphobia,and depression have recently been prescribed lorazapan 1 mg one time a day it seems to be helping but I still have anxiety around people and and when I leave my home I don t if this is the correct medicine for me . I used to be a supervisor and a bartender always had good people and social skills now I seem uptight and just got worked up around crowds or general people in a store works me up .....do you think I am on the proper meds for me panicking .? Seems I am calmer tho on the medicine she put me on it just. Doesn t seem to work for me in crowds

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine drug and the drug helps to control the symptoms of acute anxiety and panic. The drug also causes sedation and thus calms the individual. In general the drug is prescribed for use on SOS basis. But the drug is not used to treat anxiety or depression.

For treatment of anxiety and depression medicines like SSRIs or SNRIs are used. Serotonergic drugs like Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, Sertraline etc are used for treatment of anxiety. These drugs help to reduce anxiety and depression.

For control of anxiety symptoms you can continue to take Lorazepam as advised but for proper treatment you should consult your doctor and ask about prescription of drugs I have mentioned.

Apart from this cognitive behaviour therapy also helps to control anxiety symptoms. Please discuss with a psychologist for that.
