What Causes Ankle Swelling After Taking Amlodipine?

I take Amlodipine for my High Blood Pressure. I know one of the symptoms of this medication is ankles swelling. I also have pain in my feet and legs every day. My mother passed away in 2014, she due to poor sercerlation in he feet and leg. She took the same kind medication. I am soooo scared of this medication.

Hi,

Amlodipine(dihydropyridine), a calcium channel blocker (CCB) is smooth muscle relaxant. Ankle edema with Amlodipine(dihydropyridine) use are related to their potencies as arteriolar dilators; edema is due to dilatation of pre-capillary arteriloar sphincter resulting an increase in transcapillary pressure gradients and hence dependent edema , not due to net salt and water retention. Hence it is rather cosmetic.
