What Causes Anal Bleeding When Suffering From Hemorrhoids?

I was diagnosed with hemmoroid about 1 month ago with a colorectal surgeon. I have been having blood when I wipe on the toilet paper once a week or so. No pain or problems with bowel movement. I take konsyl power every day and am regular. I wonder if I should get this checked again.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I have read your query and understand your concern. Hemorrhoids are also called piles. They are caused due to long history of constipation mostly. Hemorrhoids are the dilated hemorrhoidal veins near your anus.
They do bleed when excess pressure is applied over the anus while passing stools. But they are painless in the initial stages. If they become prolapsed (That they cannot be put back into anus) and blood clots develop in them they are called thrombosed internal hemorrhoids. Then they become painful.
No need to worry at all about the problem. Just do some lifestyle modifications. It will definitely stop bleeding and will come under control.
1. Eat healthy food full of fibers and green leafy vegetables.
2. Eat fresh fruits, which will improve your overall health and increase the bulk of your stool, which will reduce constipation.
3. Drink lots of water.
4. Do some exercise everyday like walking.

If your symptoms don't resolve after following lifestyle modifications, do consult a surgeon. He will check your hemorrhoids and might suggest some local ointment or cream to heal them.
