Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes An Infected Sore And Swelling In The Leg?
My father in-law has a huge open sore on his leg that the doctors thought was caused by blood clots. They treated what they thought the issue was back in December. Now in March he still has swelling in his leg, a huge hole that they keep packing with gauze pads and now a new black spot on his ankle has shown up and started oozing from an infection. On top of the leg issue he lost his voice back in December and has only regained some of it back. I don t know if the two are from the same issue or if he has two things going on. The vein surgeon can t tell us why the infection won t go away and why the first vein surgery didn t work 2 years ago. Is there a bigger problem here? Cancer has been ruled out, or over looked I don t know.
The description you have given suggestive of an ulcer cavity.
You can consult a plastic surgeon and get evaluated. First of all We have to make the wound clean by frequent dressing and antibiotics. Once the wound is clean we can go for collagen dressing to fill the cavity.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
