What Causes An Infant To Avoid Solid Food?

Hi Doctor. My son is 6 mo and I tried to introduce solid food to him. However, he refused to eat the prepared food (avocado puree and blueberries puree). I wonder is it because of the type of puree or he is not ready to wean yet. Also, his demand on breast milk also reducing. Please advise so that my son wont be lack of nutrient for him to grow up. Thank you.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is appropriate to introduce foods at this point but you should start with the simple cereals first. You can start with rice cereals.

One food should be introduced at a time, no mixtures. The reason this is done is to determine if there is any allergic reaction. If 2 foods are given at a time and a reaction occurs, you would not know which one caused it.

When a food is introduced, only that food is given for at least three days, this is because , it take this long for an allergic reaction to start.

He NEEDS milk for the first year, even though he starts to eat, milk must be the main source because it would have more calories than any food.
If he does not get enough milk, he would not grow as well.
The fruits, vegetables are not enough for any baby to grow

If you are still unsure, you should see his doctor for advice

I hope this helps
