What Causes An Ear Infection While Suffering From Bell S Palsy?
I woke up 6 weeks ago with Bell s Palsy. I was having a horrible ear infection and a week later the pressure was unbearable. My ENT put tubes in my ears. The palsy isn t better or worse except for intense pain behind the ear on the same side of the palsy. Do you think it could all be related somehow. I am 52 and have never had this happen before with acute ear infections.
Regarding your concern, I would explain that Bells Palsy is caused by irritation or inflammation of the facial nerve, which passes through the bone which contains the inner ear chambers.
For this reason, an inner ear infection can cause Bells Palsy by spread of the inflammation or infection.
Anyway, Bells Palsy can also occur without any obvious causes.
Coming to this point, I would recommend consulting with your ENT specialist for a new physical exam. A brain MRI may be needed.
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Wishing all the best,
Dr. Iliri
