What Causes An Altered Sense Of Smell While Suffering From COPD?

I do have COPD, some artery blockage the worst one is the one that wraps around the heart from the back. Last time checked it was 50%. OK I have been having the feeling of smelling fumes from a vehicle all the time. can almost taste it in the back of my throat. Have been having trouble breathing too. What could be doing this?

Hello and welcome to HCM.
Thanks for putting up your query.
You are possibly suffering from deep vein thrombosis.History of use of birth control pills increases the chances of DVT.
If I were your treating doctor,I recommend,
- Pain killer acetaminophen for temporary pain relief.
-Local application of ice packs for 15 minutes for 3-4 times in a day
-Advice immediate referral to surgeon.Doppler ultrasound scan for blood circulation of legs will be necessary.If found having DVT,treatment with heparin and other anticoagulants will have to be done for 6 months by regular monitoring of blood coagulation studies.
-Wear compression stockings
-Do regular walking and avoid prolong immobilization of the limb.
-Look for the signs of shortness of breath,chest pain,cough and report immediately to ER if any present.
