What Causes Amenorrhea?

Hi! This is my first time using WebMD. I haven t had a period since October/November of 2016. I am 31, sexually-active, and not pregnant. Something like this happened when I was in high school (when I was not sexually active), and after some blood work, the doc told me I had a hypoactive thyroid. They put me on meds and birth control to regulate it. I plan on trying to see a doctor about it, but I m currently in my 4th semester of grad school and money is very tight so I m just trying to gather a little info at this point while I get some money together. Do you think it could be the same issue? It was literally half my life ago.

Hi, I think it can be due to some thyroid disorder. You can get a thyroid profile and prolactin levels and a ultrasound for your uterus and ovaries done to find out the cause of irregular periods. You may need some hormonal treatment.
