What Causes Agitation While Weaning Off Risperdal?

Hey My son has Autism and has been on 1mg risperdal 2xs a dy anf 40 mg of celexa for at least 4 yrs Recently his doctor gradually weaned him off the risperdal removing the celexa replacing it with effexor ( not sure what mg) Agitation set in along with his body shaking....withdrawals from removal of risperdal? His doctor said no I don t believe it! Risperdal abd effexor....Good combination or bad?

Hi,

The combination of risperdal with venlafaxine may increase the risk for neuroleptic malignant hyperthermia which causes very high fever and also can be lethal.

It is important to send him to the hospital and have a check and rule out this as the cause of the shakiness and agitation as this can be dangerous.
