What Causes Acid Reflux And Chronic Cough?

was awoken this morning with acid burning ..acid reflux in throat...burning a lot....making me cough..gag...took rolaids chews...another omoprozole...stilling burning....never been this bad...just now starting to get somewhat better..but still burning sensation...I am 65 yr old woman

As per your symptoms it seems you are suffering from GERD. You need to take more boiled then spicy foods.

Take advocate sleep and avoid hours of empty stomach.
Take empty stomach pantoprozol 40 mg with domperidone 10mg once daily for at least one month.

Avoid smoking and citrus fruits for some time. As PPI like omperizole takes time to act for immediate relief take any of anti acid preparation.
And because of regurgitation your throat is getting affected.
