What Causes Abnormal Curvature Of Knees Post Knee Replacement?

I had TKR 5 weeks ago. Pain is gone. Swelling is going down. Dr. office called yesterday and I responded that it appeared crooked in that with knees touching my TKR foot splays approx 3 to the outside. They suggested I wait until follow-up appointment in February. While walking with no aids (crutches, walker) my knees now touch each other. Is this normal?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
Normal knees have 7 to 10 degree of valgus , means outside deviation of leg from midline. Is your foot is deviated or leg? If it's leg deviation it's normal but if it's foot deviated outward it may be due to ligament laxity post knee surgery. It's advisable to wear long knee extension brace for a a month post surgery so that you get confidence and your limb muscles regain strength by physiotherapy. Both knee touching together is normal. So I would advise to do extensive physiotherapy with quadriceps and hamstrings strengthening till a visit to your replacement surgeon. It might cure you of foot deviation. All the best.
