What Causes Abdominal Swelling Long After An Appendectomy?

I had an appendectomy in April 2015 after having my uterus removed in March 2013 and ovaries removed in October 2014. My uterus and ovaries were removed due to severe endometriosis. When they removed my appendix 15 weeks ago I was told that they didn t find recurring endo. Is it unusual to expect abdominal swelling this long after appendectomy? It s worse at night than in the morning. I am very bloated as of a week or so ago.

Hi,

Noted your history of abdominal bloating, particularly at night, happened after appendectomy 15 weeks ago, also had removal of uterus and ovaries in 2013 and 2014 respectively for endometriosis and told that there is no endometriosis as seen during Appendectomy.
Since you have undergone 3 surgery for abdominal and pelvic condition
particularly for endometriosis and appendicitis the following are the possibilities for abdominal distension:
Intestinal obstruction of sub-acute character.
May be stricture or kinking of intestine.
Adhesion.
Recurrence of Endometriosis.
Enterocolitis.
IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome.
Diagnosis can be made by the following ways:
X-ray in a standing position and CT scan of abdomen if required.
Consult a General Surgeon for clinical examination and have necessary investigations to get a proper diagnosis and get further management as per the findings.
