What Causes Abdominal Pain While On Nitrofurantoin?

I have been taking nitrofurantoin 100 mgs once daily for 3 months, I developed severe right upper abdominal pain 4 days ago and on ultrasound scan found to have an inflamed bile duct with enlarged lumen,I also had pyrexia and tachycardia. No gall stones in gall bladder. Could this be an effect of nitrofurantoin?
