What Causes Abdominal Pain Radiating To The Sternum And Chest When Hungry?

Hi, recently I ve been having chest pains when I m hungry. First my stomach will start to hurt and then it slowly goes up around my sternum and more towards my left side. I was diagnosed with Costochondritis around April and wasn t sure if that had anything to do with it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The pain of costochondritis is appreciated on movement or during compression of the chest.

Considering that your pain originates from the stomach when hungry and radiates to the chest, it can be attributed to the accumulation of gas secondary to increased acid production in the stomach.

Symptomatic relief can be obtained with intake of Pantoprazole preparation (to be taken twice a day before meals) & antacid gel (to be taken after meals).

They prevent the formation of excess acid in the stomach & provide symptomatic relief.

If symptoms still persist, kindly consult a Gastroenterologist for proper clinical examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Polash Sannigrahi, General & Family Physician
