What Causes Abdominal Pain On The Right Side?

About six months ago I was in the hospital and a ultrasound was done. It showed that I had a large cyst on my right kidney; so now I m experiencing pain in my right side that can be described as contractions for about 30 minutes on and off at time; could this be the cyst? and what will the doctor suggest now because I was told there was no need to do anything at the time, but now it is starting to hurt more frequently?
