What Causes Abdominal Pain, Bloating, Low Appetite And Reflux In A Teenager?

My 14 yr old daughter has pain in her lower right abdomen since yesterday. Its not excruciating pain - more dull, but with sharp, throbbing pain occasionally, she s bloated, had a low fever last night and again today. Shes been queasy, has had a slight appetite- she descibed it as feeling like her stomach wants to growl, but doesn t really feel hungry so she eats a little something to calm her stomach. She also said shes thrown up in her mouth a little a few times- I think it s probably acid. Wondering if I should get her checked for appendicitis or does it sound like something else ? Just dont want to make an unnecessary trip to the ET and waste anyone s time !

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

- If the pain is in the lower right quadrant, appendicitis needs to be ruled out. So she should have an exam. It would not be a waste of time to go in to be seen.

It's possible this is a gastroenteritis (stomach flu) which would be the most common cause, but given the lower right abdominal location, let's make sure this isn't a brewing appendicitis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
