What Causes Abdominal Pain And Vomiting While Suffering With UTI And Leukocytosis?

Hi, my daughter visited the emergency room on Sunday January 16, 2017 and was released with diagnosis of UTI and leukocytosis. However, since she s been home she hasn t eaten in 2 days, vomiting, fever won t break, lips starting to chap, hot one minute and cold the next. She was experiencing abdominal pain when she went but all she does is sleeps now when she s not vomiting. Every ounce of water, cranberry juice, apple juice she puts in her system comes up and out. The ER physician released her on Cipro 500mg, Phenergan 25mg, and Norco 5/325mg. I m curious if this could be her appendix.

Hello,

It is very important for your daughter to see a doctor as soon as possible, especially because she is vomiting and not able to keep anything down, she might need intravenous fluids. Vomiting so much might affect the absorption of the antibiotic and might make the treatment of the infection difficult, increasing the need for other way to take the antibiotic so having intravenous antibiotics for a while might be needed. Also being so sleepy is an indication to see the doctor soon. The infection or the dehydration can be the cause for the sleepiness and both need quick medical attention.
it is a good physical examination and observation of the patient and sometimes an abdominal ultrasound that will say for sure if her appendix is the cause of the symptoms or not.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
