What Causes Abdominal Pain And Nausea Despite Having Gallstones?

I have a gallstone that is about 2.0mm . It s not blocking anything from what I read in the report. I have pain. When it first started to hurt I had a lot of pain on the right side of my abdomen and it eventually had spread to my whole abdominal area, I was also nauseous. I didn t vomit. Lately I ve just been dealing with the pain since I have a high pain tolerance. I just met with a general surgeon today and after him looking over the report he said I need surgery. However I don t feel comfortable with surgery. Plus I have a job and I don t really have enough time to be out for 2 weeks to recover. I was wondering if surgery was necessary or if there was something else that could be done?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concerns.
Although gall stone present is not blocking the duct, you could still experience the symptoms of pain and nausea as there will be some amount of stasis of bile as well as inflammation in the gall bladder and biliary tract.
Hence, to get complete relief, you need to undergo surgery as advised by your doctor. There are no other treatment option available to be considered.
If left alone, the stone could pass further and block the duct leading to complications of 'obstructive jaundice', which needs to be treated on emergency basis.
Hence, it is recommended to follow what your doctor has advised and undergo surgery at the earliest.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
