What Causes Abdominal Pain And Blood In Stool?

My 2 year old daughter has been suffering for stomach pain that comes and go for two weeks now. There is a blood in her stool and the diagnosis was cow s milk allergy. We had her stool checked but it says no problem and no amoeba. We went on whole abdomen ultrasound and all the other organs are unremarkable except the duodenum. The walls of the duodenum are thickened. What should we do and what does this indicate? what could be the possible cause of this? Hope to get answer from you. Thanks

Hello,

If cow milk allergy is the possible diagnosis then avoiding cow's milk will help settle symptoms in a couple of weeks. If no improvement with avoidance of the cow's milk then very likely this is not the cause of the symptoms. You mention she does not have amoeba, this means she had a normal stool for ova and parasites, has she had a stool culture and microscopy? This would rule out bacterial infection as the cause of the symptoms.
Other things to consider are other allergies like gluten sensitivity which she can have a blood test to screen for.

If she continues with blood in stool for another week she needs to be admitted and have the proper checks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
