Hi, I had protected sex last Saturday and took plan b the next day as a back up in case something went wrong. This day was the same day as my ovulation. After taking the pill my stomach started to hurt. Then the following day I was nauseated and fatigued. It w has been a week and now I do not feel anything. My stomach however does feel inflammated. According to my chart my period isn t due until February 15th, which is 8 days a way. Should I take a test or continue waiting? Please help me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Plan B is an emergency contraceptive pill. It needs to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
What you have done is right. The symptoms you are experiencing like nausea, fatigue and abdominal pain could be due to side effect of the pill. You need to take good quantity of fluids and symptomatic treatment for such symptoms. These symptoms would soon subside once you get the breakthrough bleeding.
To be protected from pregnancy, you need to get breakthrough bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of intake of the pill.
In case bleeding does not happen by 3 weeks, you need to seek medical attention immediately.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
